Bond attends funeral of SPECTRE operative number 6, Colonel Jaques Bouvar only to realise that he isn’t dead but is in disguise…as his widow!! After following him to his chateau a fight ensues where Bond kills him and makes his escape.
While at a health clinic, having been sent there by M for R and R, he sees a man by the name of Count Lippe (Guy Doleman) while he’s having a massage. Bond is suspicious of him and later searches his room. He is seen, however, and Lippe makes an attempt to kill him. He is thwarted though by Patricia Fearing (Molly Peters), the woman who was giving him a massage who is then seduced by Bond.
He then finds the body of French NATO pilot, Francois Derval, who is swathed in bandages. He has been murdered by SPECTRE henchman, Angelo, who had had surgery to take on the appearance of Derval.
Derval was supposed to be on board an Avro Vulcan while it was carrying two atomic bombs; Angelo in the guise of Derval replaced him and sabotaged the plane bringing it down in the sea near the Bahamas. Unfortunately, he is then killed by another SPECTRE agent, Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi), because of his attempt to extort more money, and he and his henchmen recover the bombs from the seabed.
Meanwhile, while travelling back to Whitehall where he had been summoned, Bond encounters Lippe again who give chase. Unfortunately another SPECTRE agent, Fiona Volpe (Luciana Paluzzi), kills him because of his misjudgement of Angelo and SPECTRE demands white diamonds to the value of £100 million from NATO if they want the bombs back, otherwise they will drop them on an American of British major city.
During the meeting Bond sees Derval in a photograph so he is despatched to Nassau where Dervals sister, Domino (Claudine Auger), lives only to find that she is the mistress of Largo.
After saving Domino’s life while snorkelling they have lunch together but later, when Bond goes to a party, he sees her and Largo gambling. After joining in and winning Largo he dances with Domino but Largo is not happy.
On returning to his room he realises that someone is inside and finds a SPECTRE henchman in his bathroom. He disarms him and lets him go but the guy goes back to Largo and ends up in with the sharks.
Bond is issued with an array of gadgets and tries to swim under Largo’s boat but nearly meets his end. Later, his assistant, Paula (Martine Beswick), is kidnapped by Largo but she kills herself before she can be rescued.
After Bond escapes from being kidnapped by Fiona he is chased and ends up in the Kiss Kiss club. Fiona tries to kill him but her bodyguard shoots her first. Bond and Felix Leiter, the CIA agent, go in search of the Vulcan and find it submerged.
Bond finds Domino scuba diving and helps her when her foot is poisoned by a sea urchin. He asks her for help in finding the bombs informing her that Largo had killed her brother. She tells him that Largo is going to recover the bombs from the submarine so he should take the place of one of his henchmen. Domino is captured when she is searching for them on Largo’s ship with a Geiger counter that Bond had given her to help trace them.
Boarding the ship as one of Largo’s henchmen Bond uncovers the plan to destroy Miami Beach but is discovered only to be rescued by Leiter who calls in the US Coast Guard. They arrive by parachute and an underwater battle ensues with the henchmen surrendering.
Largo, however, escapes on his ship, the Disco Volante, carrying the bombs. He jettisons the rear of the ship, the front section being a hydrofoil, but Bond is aboard and there is a fight. Just as he’s about to kill Bond, Largo is killed by Domino who has been freed by Ladislav Kutze, Largo’s nuclear physicist. Domino and Bond jump overboard just in time as the ship runs aground and explodes. They are rescued by the US Navy.
